Research & Fellowship Support

The department offers full fellowship support for five years to most incoming graduate students. In addition, many of our students also secure full-year FLAS fellowships, summer research funds, and additional research grants from Duke's various area and inter-disciplinary research centers.

In the past five years, our students have also received dissertation related grants from such organizations as the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Mellon Foundation.

Duke's Graduate School and Vice Provost for Internal Affairs also offer competitive summer or dissertation-related grants open to all Duke departments. In recent years several Duke Political Science students each year have been successful in competing for these awards.

A good place to find about grant and fellowship opportunities outside Duke is through Duke's Office of Research Support.
